I was fortunate enough to be offered an opportunity to attend an early screening of “The Secret Life of Pets 2”.
It’s been 3 years since the 2016 Blockbuster that showed us what our pets are really doing when we leave home. This second installment is no different. The lives of our pets are on full display and take on new meaning after we leave for work and school each day in this second installment.
“The Secret Life of Pets 2” has its moments. The movie is funny, hilarious and entertaining. There is definitely a story.
One of the best elements of the first installment was the Poodle changing the boom box music from classical to “Acid Rock” and inviting his friends over for a party the minute his owner got on the elevator. Disappointingly the Poodle did not appear in this 2nd installment.
“The Secret Life of Pets 2” opens wide Friday June 7th. If you want to know what your pets do when you are not at home, then go see this follow-up to the 2016 Blockbuster hit.
This is a 3 ½ Star Movie!!
Based on a true story, “The Upside” is about a paroled ex-con, Dell (Kevin Hart) who must find a job. After several failed attempts to become gainfully employed, Dell applies for what he believes is a janitor position for a billionaire. As it turns out the position isn’t a Janitorial position it’s a position to help the paralyzed billionaire, Phil (Bryan Cranston) with everyday chores like dressing, bathing, eating etc…It does not appear to be a good fit, but the billionaire sees something in Dell and hires him anyway. The story unfolds from there…
“The Upside” is a mirror of another movie called the “Intouchables” that came out in the 2011-2012 time frame. There is an English version and a French version.
Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart play well together on the big screen. The movie was surprisingly entertaining and at times funny. There are several subplots/agendas that don’t quite play out, so you are forced to use your own imagination to figure them out.
When I go to the movies I don’t want to have to figure anything out. It should be all nicely laid out for me. This is the reason “The Upside” is not a 5 star movie, but it is still worth a look.
This is a 3 Star Movie!!
Do you have a pet? Maybe a Dog, Cat, Bird, Fish, Hamster, Bunny or even a Snake. Do you know what your pet does all day while you are at work? Well “The Secret Life of Pets” is going to show you exactly what type of shenanigans your pet gets into the moment you leave for work or school.
Max the dog has a cushy life with his owner. She spoils him rotten. One day Max’s owner comes home with another dog that she picked up from the pound. The new dog is introduced as Duke. Duke is HUGH. When the owner isn’t looking Max is not very nice to Duke and this causes Duke to misbehave. The next morning after the owner has left for work, Max, Duke and the other Dogs in their neighborhood are taken for a walk to Central Park. Duke wants to get back at Max, so he lures Max away from everyone and suddenly they are on the run from Animal Control. The story unfolds from there…
“The Secret Life of Pets” is absolutely hilarious!! I laughed out loud many times. The 3D Aspects are awesome. I found myself ducking a lot. There are so many fun scenes from the Poodle who throws a Heavy-Metal Party, the Dachshund who uses the Kitchen-Aid Stand Mixer Beater as a Massage Tool, to the Cat who eats a whole chicken that is sitting in the refrigerator. The Poodle is so interesting that the movie circles back to the Poodle’s Heavy-Metal party a second time. There are so many crazy things going on that all you can do is shake your head.
“The Secret Life of Pets” is definitely worth the ticket.
This is a 4 Star Movie!
I am not a Kevin Hart fan and “Central Intelligence” wasn’t on my original watch list, but I decided to give it a look anyway.
Kevin Hart is Calvin Joyner the guy in High School who was the most likely to succeed. Dwayne Johnson is Bob Stone the guy in High School who was the butt of fat jokes and pranks.
Fast forward 20 years…Calvin Joyner married his High School sweet-heart and is an accountant in a prestigious firm. Bob Stone has lost 200 pounds and is a field Agent in the CIA. Bob contacts Calvin because Calvin always came to his rescue in High School.
After Bob and Calvin meet for drinks things start to unravel with a case that Bob is involved with. He needs Calvin’s help. The story unfolds from there…
Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart actually make a good comedy duo. They feed off of each other pretty well. “Central Intelligence” is funny with some slap-stick thrown in, serious at times, but also entertaining with a decent amount of action.
The movie is better than I thought it would be. It’s not all jokes for Kevin Hart’s character Calvin Joyner. “Central Intelligence” is probably the best movie I have seen that stars Kevin Hart.
This is a 3 ½ Star Movie!
This was the highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man”. Well as often goes a sequel is usually not as good as its predecessor. “Think Like A Man Too” is such a sequel.
Picking up where they left off from two years ago the couples head to Las Vegas for a wedding celebration. Their plans go awry when their various misadventures turn into trouble and they all land in jail. The story unfolds from there…
Instead of being funny, Kevin Hart is annoying and irritating in the movie. I was hoping that someone in the movie would slap him. There is being funny and then there is being raunchy. Kevin was just plain raunchy.
The story is somewhat predictable, but there are a few unexpected surprises. The movie is silly and just plain stupid. The first installment was very good.
“Think Like A Man Too” is disappointing… I would only spend money seeing this movie if you have absolutely nothing to do this weekend.
Otherwise wait for DVD, Blueray or Cable
This movie is worth 1 1/2 stars
“About Last Night” is a “Must See” Hilarious Relationship Comedy!
This is a re-make of the 1986 “About Last Night” that starred Demi Moore and Rob Lowe. This up-to-date version has move comedy and raunchiness to it thanks to Kevin Hart.
This new installment closely follows the ups and downs of two couples as they try to figure out what they each want out of a relationship that starts in a bar and moves quickly to the bedroom. One couple has HUGH sexual chemistry right out the gate while the other couple takes things a bit slower deciding to test their relationship by moving in together. The story unfolds from there…
The movie is funny, hilarious, raunchy and entertaining. Kevin Hart is an absolute nut! There is plenty of male and female eye candy throughout the movie. I love the sound track, it includes James Brown at the beginning.
The one small down side is I feel that Paula Patton cannot “Act”. Every time I see her in a movie outside of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, I feel ill. She gets these parts to portray a “Sex Pot” and she’s not very convincing. I feel she is trying too hard and it comes across on-screen. Thank heaven she was only in a few scenes.
I would like to point out that this movie is rated “R” and should be. There is sexual content and sexual profanity throughout the movie. “About Last Night” is not suitable for anyone under 17.
“About Last Night” is definitely a “Date Night” movie. Go see it!
“Ride Along” was not on my original watch list, but after it took in so much money last weekend. I thought I would take a look.
Kevin Hart is the funniest man in America at the moment. Ice Cube is the perfect straight man for all of Kevin Hart’s silliness.
In Order to win over his girl friend’s brother, Ben (Kevin Hart) a High School Security Guard must prove he has what it takes by spending 24 hours on a “Ride Along” with James (Ice Cube) who happens to be a hot headed detective in the Atlanta Police department. They both get embroiled in James latest case pursuing a notorious felon. The story unfolds from there…
Kevin Hart is funny and silly. Ice Cube compliments Kevin nicely as a comic straight man to all of Kevin Hart’s antics. There are plenty of laughs, but the plot and story fall a bit short and are both very weak. “Ride Along” is a bit boring. It’s all too familiar as we have seen this before. Kevin Hart is an excellent comedian; but not such a great actor. He should stick to “Stand-Up Comedy”.
“Ride Along” will be great for some comedy relief once it comes out on DVD or Blu-Ray. You should wait for it then.
I am not sure why the paid critics were so hard on “Grudge Match”, I found it mildly entertaining.
“Grudge Match” is about two retired Pittsburgh boxers Billy “The Kid” (DeNiro) and Henry “Razor” Sharp (Stallone). They maintained a fierce rivalry that continued from the 1980’s until now. They each beat the other in a prize fight, but on the eve of their third fight Henry announced his retirement and this ended both fighters boxing careers.
Thirty years later boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr. (Hart) comes calling. He makes both Henry and Billy an offer they can’t refuse. The story unfolds from there…
There were a few holes in the story, but the overall movie picks up toward the end especially the boxing match scenes. I found the movie to be mildly funny at times, but did not offer the comic relief expected. I think that DeNiro and Stallone had decent on-screen chemistry, but I found some of the scenes with Kim Basinger and Sylvester Stallone to be awkward.
If you have run out of “After Christmas Shopping”, then by all means see “Grudge Match”.
