Breaking In

What a way to start May at the movies…”Breaking In” is so bad you will want to “Break Out” of your theater seat and leave…

Gabrielle Union is Shaun Russell, she has to save her children when they are held hostage in their home that has been designed with impenetrable security. Shaun Russell will stop at nothing to save her children. The story unfolds from there…

No real context of the events is provided. There needed to be a back story to set the stage, but unfortunately it was non-existent.

The only positives are Gabrielle Union did what she could with what she was given and the events happened quickly. Gabrielle Union will remind you of John McClane (Bruce Willis) from the Die Hard franchise.

No Need to waste your money wait for “Breaking In” on Cable.

Sleepless (2017)

“Sleepless” is a T.V. Cop Drama on the Big Screen.

Las Vegas police officer Vince Downs (Jamie Foxx) is caught up in a high stakes sting operation where he is trying to weed out the corrupt cops and bring down a known drug syndicate who controls one of Vegas’s Casinos. A heist goes wrong and Down’s son is kidnapped right in front of him. The story unfolds from there…

The story is mundane at best. We have seen it all before on TV. There is a strong cast and some decent action, but that’s not enough to keep you awake.

I like Jamie Foxx. He is a well-rounded entertainer, he can sing, act and crack some good jokes. He even has an Oscar to his credit, but Jamie appears to not be very invested in “Sleepless”. He looks as though he is going through the motions. I had high hopes for “Sleepless”, but unfortunately my hopes were dashed.

“Sleepless” will be a great movie to watch on DVD or Blue-Ray.

Almost Christmas

“Almost Christmas” is a lively comedy about a patriarch whose one wish is that for the upcoming Christmas Holiday the family all come together for the 5 Days leading up to Christmas. This will be the first Christmas without the Mother as she passed away earlier in the year. The family consists of 5 adult children, 3 grandchildren and 1 sister-in-law. The wish of the patriarch is that they are all able to get along under one roof without killing each other. As the children start to arrive at the family home the fireworks begin. The story unfolds from there…

The events and drama that unfold with this family are not uncommon in real life. Jealousy, Envy, Ambition, Adultery, Grief and Misunderstandings all take up residence at this family gathering. The movie has good and bad parts, but it is entertaining, thought provoking and at times corny.

“Almost Christmas” is better that a lot of Holiday comedy movies that have come before it. I think “Almost Christmas” is worth a look.

This is a 3 ½ Star Movie!

Top Five

“Top Five” plainly stated is Chris Rock “Stand-up in the Raw and on the Move”.

“Top Five” is about the “Show Business” bed being unmade. Chris Rock and his star studded cast blend comedy and seriousness with politics and everyday life situations from alcohol and drug use to romance, marriage and sex.

If you like Chris Rock in his stand-up comedy shows, you will like “Top Five”.

This movie is definitely not for anyone under the age of 17. There is strong profanity, strong sexual content, explicit nudity and crude humor throughout the movie.

Think Like A Man Too

This was the highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit “Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man”. Well as often goes a sequel is usually not as good as its predecessor. “Think Like A Man Too” is such a sequel.

Picking up where they left off from two years ago the couples head to Las Vegas for a wedding celebration. Their plans go awry when their various misadventures turn into trouble and they all land in jail. The story unfolds from there…

Instead of being funny, Kevin Hart is annoying and irritating in the movie. I was hoping that someone in the movie would slap him. There is being funny and then there is being raunchy. Kevin was just plain raunchy.
The story is somewhat predictable, but there are a few unexpected surprises. The movie is silly and just plain stupid. The first installment was very good.

“Think Like A Man Too” is disappointing… I would only spend money seeing this movie if you have absolutely nothing to do this weekend.
Otherwise wait for DVD, Blueray or Cable
