Last Christmas

From the trailers “Last Christmas” looked like it would be a fun movie, so I decided to give it a look.

Kate (Emilia Clarke) is a walking accident in London waiting to happen. She meanders endlessly through her days without much direction. Then along comes Tom (Henry Golding) who seems too good to be true. After many semi dates with Tom, Kate let’s her hair down and wants to get close, but Tom can’t let that happen. Kate thinks Tom is rejecting her but that is not the case. The story unfolds from there…

“Last Christmas” ends up having a very interesting twist. You have to weed through most of the movie to get to the real meaning. The story starts off a bit disjointed. There is a sort of comic relief to some of the events that occur. While the movie is fairly decent, its not a memorable Holiday movie that will have a lasting effect. While watching “Last Christmas” I felt there were undertones to “Bridge Jones Diary”. There were scenes that kept reminding me of that movie.

Check out “Last Christmas” if you dare. Although it is worthy of waiting for it on cable.

This is a 2 Star Movie!!

Solo: A Star Wars Story in 3D

The “Hans Solo” story is Ok, but it’s not the usual Star Wars blockbuster we have come to expect.

This episode is a new adventure starring Hans Solo. In a far-away galaxy Solo must constantly deal in daring escapades trying to escape trouble. He lands himself a job as a copilot but that too falls futile. Solo ends up dealing with the deep dark criminal underworld where he deals with a gambler to win a ship that he needs for a job. This sets the course for several criminal encounters that Solo has to maneuver around. The story unfolds from there…

The story starts off slowly and drags. It takes over 50 minutes for things to heat up and get interesting. Once the events get going it’s an enjoyable movie. There are plenty of crazy stunts, lots of action and beautiful cinematography.

Please do not expect the usual Star Wars Blockbuster. You will be disappointed. This is a Ron Howard production. It is pretty good.

This is a 3 Star Movie!!

Me Before You

“Me Before You” is a screen adaptation of the NY Times Best Selling Novel by Jojo Moyes. I actually read this book and it was a “page turner”. I could not put the book down.

“Me Before You” is about two people who are unexpectedly brought together. Louisa Clark (Emilia Clarke) a small town Englishwoman has lost her long time job at the Buttered Bun. She is the major bread winner in her family. Louisa goes down to the Job Employment Center to find work. She is sent out on an interview for a position as a companion to a paralyzed wealthy Englishman Will Traynor (Sam Claflin).

Louisa is hired by Will’s mother Camilla Traynor (Janet McTeer) on a 6 month contract.
Louisa starts immediately, but during her introduction to Will Traynor, Louisa has second thoughts. The story unfolds from there…

With the exception of a few parts in the book the movie stayed true to the main story. I found the movie entertaining, moving and thought provoking. I thought that Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin were great together.

The movie is a bit of a tear-jerker, but based on the story that is to be expected.
I think that “Me Before You” is a good movie and it deserves a look.

This is a 3 ½ Star Movie!

Terminator Genisys: The 3D IMAX Experience

I can sum up “Terminator Genisys” in a couple of sentences…

It’s better than the two previous installments, but unfortunately it’s not as good as the first two installments.

“Terminator Genisys” is the same story only it’s being told with a time travel twist. The one intriguing element is that the time travel is done in the nude.
There are lots of explosions, action and gun fire. The best thing about the movie is Arnold Schwarzenegger. If he were not in this installment, it definitely would not be worth watching. His grin is hilarious.

The trailers made this installment look really interesting and worth seeing. Unfortunately the story is disjointed and there are two many sub plots that are not completed. This is the first of a new series of installments of this franchise. I am not sure where they are going from here, but I guess we will find out in a couple of years.

“Terminator Genisys” is best viewed on DVD or Blue Ray.

This is a 1 1/2 Star Movie!
