Alien: Romulus in AMC Dolby

Alien: Romulus in AMC Dolby

When I learned in April 2024 that there was another Alien installment coming from that Franchise, I balked. The last Real Alien installment was in 1997. From 1979 to 1997 the Alien Franchise ruled supreme as it was awesome with star actress Sigourney Weaver at the helm. This latest installment does not include Sigourney Weaver so I had not planned to see it. My theory for this installment was maybe an egg got away back when Sigourney Weaver’s character and her team destroyed what they believed was the nest. At a later date an egg hatched and the Alien waited all these years to avenge the death of it’s Mama.

On August 14th I read a few columns and learned that “Alien: Romulus” is a MUST SEE because it is new and fresh. So off I went to see it on Aug 18th.

This new installment starts off in a far distant planet from Earth where people are working in a Colony. A crew of young space workers from the Colony noticed on one of their monitors what appears to be an abandoned Space Station/Craft floating along in space, so they decide to go check it out.

While scavenging the deep ends of the abandoned space station, the group of young space colonizers locate wreckage and body parts, soon they come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The story unfolds from there…

Yes, I would agree that “Alien: Romulus” is new and somewhat fresh. There are a few surprises, some I hope that do not breed a new franchise.

The movie is extremely suspenseful, intriguing and entertaining. It is executed very well. The AMC Dolby aspects are very good. You will feel like you are riding on the various space crafts.

As a foot note: This is a Ridley Scott Production. Ridley Scott movies are generally pretty awesome.

If you are a fan of the Alien Franchise “Alien: Romulus” is a must see!

If you are looking for a Space Adventure with a little Horror, check out “Alien: Romulus”.

Twisters in AMC Dolby

Twisters in AMC Dolby

I do not normally see Weather-Related Disaster Movies like this, but the trailer looked entertaining, so here goes…

Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) is a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City.

She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Golden Globe nominee Anthony Ramos, In the Heights) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system.

There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the storms, the better. As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed. Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems that converge over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives. The story unfolds from there…

The movie is entertaining. The cinematography and special effects are on point. The execution is loaded with Drama and Sparks Flying. It’s like being on a constant Roller Coaster Ride. You are not sure if you want to get off once it stops or go for the thrills again. It’s been a very long time between this installment and the original. This seems fresh though and not too close to its predecessor.

If you are looking for an adventure and thrills check out “Twisters”

Despicable Me 4 in AMC Dolby

Despicable Me 4 in AMC Dolby

It’s been 7 Years since the last Despicable Me installment. Gru and the Minions are BACK!!

Gru the Super Villain turned Anti Villain League Agent returns for an exciting new era of Minion Chaos.

In this new installment, Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Emmy winner Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Emmy nominee Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run. The story unfolds from there…

The Minion Mayhem is alive and well. The plot in the movie is overstuffed, but comical and definitely funny to say the least. This franchise is definitely Slapstick Comedy with a little something for the young and old.

The cinematography, special effects and animation are very good. Definitely worth the laughs. You will laugh out loud at many scenes in the movie.

If you are looking for some Comic-Relief check out “Despicable Me 4”

Inside Out 2 in AMC Dolby

Inside Out 2 in AMC Dolby

“Inside Out 2” is as brilliantly executed as its predecessor, the 2015 installment “Inside Out”. Continuing the rollercoaster ride of life, dealing with emotions.

This installment finds Riley playing Ice Hockey. Her team wins and the 3 best players (Riley and 2 friends) are invited to attend an Ice Hockey Camp. At the camp things get messy. Riley meets some more sophisticated girls who try to entice her to join their squad, thus leaving her 2 friends to join a different squad. Riley is conflicted, but goes along. The story unfolds from there…

All possible emotions play a role in this installment. Anxiety, Frustration, Anger, Happiness, Joy, Disgust, Fear, Sadness, Envy and Embarrassment.

At one point Joy and Happiness are lost. Riley has to go through the complete range of emotions before Joy and Happiness returns once again.

“Inside Out 2” may be an animated movie, but there is a message for everyone young and old.

The movie is cute, funny, thought provoking, meaningful and at times sad. The movie explores “Puberty” we have all had to go through “Puberty” in some form or another. Above all the movie is heart-warming.

Check out “Inside Out 2”.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die in AMC Dolby

Bad Boys: Ride or Die in AMC Dolby

I was surprised to learn a few months ago that there was going to be another Bad Boys installment.

The World-Famous Bad Boys, Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett are back with their iconic mix of crime fighting, edge of your seat action and comedy relief only this time there is a twist, stakes are higher and the Bad Boys find themselves on the run. The story unfolds from there…

Surprisingly there is still life in this franchise. What they do great is tie the installments together. There is a continuation from the last installment. There are lots of crazy stunts, edge of your seat action and even some crazy thrills. There is a plot and a story.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence still work well together. There are a couple of slow spots and some cheesiness in the movie and that’s what keeps it from being a 4- or 5-star movie, but it is extremely entertaining. The execution is good, but NOT nearly as well done as the previous installment, the Jan 2020 “Bad Boys for Life”.

“Bad Boys: Ride or Die is definitely a good summer entertaining movie.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in AMC IMAX

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in AMC IMAX

The Mad Max Franchise has returned with another installment.

This installment finds a young Furiosa being snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, she falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Time soon passes and Furiosa grows up. She is carried around in a cage as the biker horde Sweeps through the Wasteland.

They come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa soon finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home. The story unfolds from there…

This installment takes a page from Mad Max: Fury Road. The Dirt and Dust continues to fly. The movie is executed very well and gives Mad Max Fury Road more credibility. The Cast is strong, although I was not convinced of Chris Hemsworth’s portrayal of a bad guy.

There is definitely plenty of action, some suspense and the cinematography aspects were excellent. The IMAX effects are very good, you will definitely feel like you are riding along on the motorcycles or the trucks.

The door is left open at the end…

If you are a Mad Max Fan, then you won’t want to miss “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”

Civil War in AMC Dolby

Civil War in AMC Dolby

“Civil War” follows the journey of a group of Military embedded Journalists as they report and photograph a dystopian future America. This group of Journalists race against the odds to get to Washington DC before the Rebel Factions descend upon the White House. The story unfolds from there…

“Civil War” is not about what you think it is. Once you understand that it is essentially a Horror Movie without the “Boogie Man”. It’s more like a larger version of what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6th, but on a much larger scale involving more states across the US with a lot more casualties and a total collapse of Political Power.

The movie was executed very well, but the dialogue in the movie was extremely lacking. This was actually discussed amongst several patrons as we were walking out of the theater. The movie is “In Your Face” Bloody, Unsettling, Tough and Very Suspenseful.

Stream it or Watch it on Cable.

This is a 3 ½ Star Movie!!

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in AMC Dolby

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in AMC Dolby

In this installment a new colossal threat to mankind is lurking below the surface…Kong actually protects a part of the world while Godzilla watches over another part of the world. When the unknown danger starts to make its presence known and challenges Kong. Kong must go to Godzilla and via any means necessary get the monster to join forces along with some additional help to stop this colossal threat at any cost. The story unfolds from there…

Godzilla x Kong is a Loud Monster Mash Spectacle. It pretty much does not offer anything else. There are some decent special effects, good cinematography and even some gory scenes, but beyond that, when the dust finally settles there is nothing left. The previous installments of this Franchise were much better.

Stream it or Watch it on Cable.

Dune Part 2 In IMAX

Dune Part 2 In IMAX

Dune Part 2 explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Paul soon faces a choice of the love of his life or the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can see. The story unfolds from there…

“EPIC” is the word for Dune Part 2.  The movie was shot in IMAX and its best seen in IMAX. You will definitely feel every ride, storm, Combat, monsters etc…, throughout the movie. The World of Dune remains complex and you will see that throughout the movie. This is definitely a Blockbuster. It’s been a while since we have had one of those. The visuals are outstanding. It’s NOT CGI Heavy, but does get the job done. The action is suspenseful as expected. This is one of those rare times when the Sequel is a bit better than the first Installment.

Sci-Fi Fans you should RUN, not Walk to see Dune Part 2 in IMAX.

The BeeKeeper in AMC Dolby

The BeeKeeper in AMC Dolby

When Adam finds Mrs. Parker unresponsive and sees her laptop and her phone with many text messages from businesses about Fraud, he bolts into action to stop the Syndicate and extract vengeance. “The BeeKeeper” is Classic “Statham”. The movie is fast paced, very entertaining, has plenty of action, suspense and intrigue. This is a classic non-stop action thriller where you will see that Jason Statham has not lost a step when it comes to whipping butts and taking names. The “BeeKeeper” is a Guilty Pleasure. I thoroughly enjoyed it!! Check it out!
