The Fantastic Four: First Steps in IMAX

The Fantastic Four: First Steps in IMAX

It’s been 10 years since the last attempt to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen. You know the saying “Third Times a Charm”. Well, this is the third time since 2005 that there has been a Fantastic Four movie and YES!! This one is a Charm.

The movie back drop is set in the early 1960’s. It’s very retro-futuristic and cool.

This installment introduces the “The First Family” Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing. The team finds themselves trying to balance family, life and also protecting Earth. They are called upon to save the Planet from a Ravenous Space God known as Galactus and his enigmatic Herald the Silver Surfer. If Galactus’s plan to gobble up the entire planet and everyone on it isn’t enough, it suddenly gets very personal. The story unfolds from there…

The movie contains tons of action, suspense, intrigue and fantastic cinematography. There is also a fair amount of special effects, but they are tastefully executed. The IMAX Aspects are on Point!!

There are very few dead spots. The movie will keep you engaged.

I love the chemistry between the cast. I look forward to another installment. I hope it does not take another 10 years before there is another one.

Fantastic Four First Steps is worth a look!!

This is a 4 Star Movie!!

Gladiator II in IMAX

Gladiator II in IMAX

Remember the first Gladiator from 2000?

This installment comes years after witnessing the death of Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius must enter the Colosseum after the powerful emperors of Rome conquer his home. With rage in his heart and the future of the empire at stake, he looks to the past to find the strength and honor needed to return the glory of Rome to its people.

Ridley Scott and Denzel Washington do not disappoint. In fact, every scene that Denzel Washington is in makes the movie intriguing and interesting. Denzel steals every scene he is in, Think “Training Day”. Also hats off to Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal.

This installment comes very close to matching the same intensity as the Oscar-Winning Best Picture first installment, but does fall short just a bit. There is plenty of bloody action, suspense and intrigue. Crowds will roar at the Coliseum action. The IMAX aspects are awesome! You will feel like you are in the Coliseum and riding on every Chariot, Horse and on any Ships.

If you are a fan of the Oscar Winning first Installment then “Gladiator II” is definitely worth a look.

This is a 4 Star Movie!!

The Equalizer 2

I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews on “Equalizer 2” because I thought it was excellent!

Denzel Washington reprises his role as Robert McCall. Robert McCall is a Lyft Driver by day and works to help the oppressed and taken advantage of by night. Robert gets a call about his close friend and just as quickly Robert’s world takes on a tale-spin. The story unfolds from there…

“Equalizer 2” is full of suspense, intrigue and action. There are several stories going on at once, but everything comes together and is tied up nicely at the end. The movie doesn’t have as many thrills as one would expect, but it’s still very good and is definitely worth seeing. Watching Denzel in action is awesome! I am hoping for a 3rd installment.

This is a 3 ½ Star Movie!!

The Great Wall in Real 3D

“The Great Wall” is an Action/Fantasy set in 11th century China, two Mercenaries (Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal) from the west find themselves battling for their lives against a Chinese Military. They are soon captured, but once their captors witness their archery and weapons skills, the military command at the Great Wall needs their assistance to battle a super-natural menace who continues to try and scale the wall to get at them and their people. Meanwhile there is a stranded visitor (Willem Dafoe) who has been at the great wall for twenty five years. He states there is a treasure to be had and tries to convince the Mercenaries to help him steal it. The story unfolds from there…

“The Great Wall” is an action epic and visual feast. Matt Damon is the best element in the movie. It’s a shame that the story wasn’t put in proper context so that it was understood how the super-natural menace came to be and why it wishes to attack and destroy an entire nation and where did the supposed treasure come from.

Because the story as a whole is dis-jointed and unclear, it’s boring. If it weren’t for Matt Damon, the movie won’t be worth seeing. The 3D aspects are pretty good.

“The Great Wall” will be a great movie to watch on Blue-Ray, DVD or Cable.

This is a 2 ½ Star Movie!
