Respect in AMC Dolby

Respect in AMC Dolby

“Respect” is a quiet Biopic about Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul.

The movie follows the rise of the Queen of Soul, from a young Aretha singing in her father’s church choir, to the adult Aretha who garners international fame and stardom. It’s a remarkable story of a woman on the journey to find her voice.

I can honestly say that Jennifer Hudson’s performance in this movie DEMANDS “Respect”. The music and performances were on point. Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin was awesome. Where the movie falls short is the direction and the screenplay.

I can say that regardless of the holes in the direction and screenplay, Jennifer Hudson’s performance did Aretha Franklin proud and is worth seeing if you are an Aretha Franklin fan. I was hopping in my seat to music. There is a “Live” performance of Aretha Franklin herself at the end of the movie footage. It’s definitely worth seeing.

“Respect” is only playing in Theaters! Go see it!!

4 Stars for Jennifer Hudson’s Performance!!

Ricki and The Flash

I love Meryl Streep! She is one of my favorite actresses. She gets into her characters like nobody’s business. She gave it everything she had, but I wasn’t convinced.

Ricki (Streep) gave up everything to live her dream as a rock and roll singer/guitar player. She and her band “The Flash” play nightly gigs in a local bar in Southern California. They play to good crowds.

One day Ricki receives a call from her ex-husband (Kevin Kline) about their daughter Julie (Mamie Gummer). She needs her Mom. Ricki puts aside her feelings and travels across country to Indiana to try and pick up the pieces and attempt to make things right with her family. The Story unfolds from there…

Rick Springfield plays Greg a member of “The Flash” and he is also in love with Ricki (Streep). Greg has his own family demons that he is dealing with.
“Ricki and The Flash” is a deep movie but it only skims the surface. There are unfinished stories in the movie. The movie ends a bit too soon.

There is lots of live music and entertainment. The music is good. You will be dancing in your seat.

Mamie Gummer is Meryl Streep’s real life daughter. They have excellent on-screen chemistry.

This is a 3 Star Movie!
